Discovering Diggers

Wow, almost a fortnight has past since post number two and so much has happened.  Firstly, over a coffee I recalled someone telling me about The Diggers Club.  Not knowing the finner details I gave them a call and found the following:

They specialise almost exclusively in heirloom varieties selling seeds, books, tools and so forth, and sending out orders.  If you join you recieve regular catalogues, discounts on products, free access to their gardens, and other advantages.  I was sold and went about joining, buying a book on growing heirloom veggetables (which I plan to review in the forthcomming weeks) and purchasing my first seed collection.

I didn't have to wait long, three business days later my goodies arrived.  I then went to Bunnings and came home with some seed trays and seed raising mix.  I asked the Horticulturist whether the seed raising mix is organic and he said, although not certified there aren't any added fertilizers.  I told him my seeds were Certified Organic and asked if the integrity of the plant would be damaged, to which he said no.

Unfortunately, if like me, you add new meaning to the term 'novice' humiliation is to be expected.  You can basically burry your head somewhere or develop a warped sense of humour.  Oh well, all journeys start with a single step.

For the past two days the seeds have been planted, we've been blessed with a bit of sun and all looks, well, bright.  As I devour my new text stay tunned for a summary of the benefits of organic gardening and a look at heirloom varities themselves.  Have fun.
